Movie Review

Old school
Director: Gabriel Moses
Starring: Patience Ozokwor, Pete Eneh, Bob Manuel Udokwu, Ify Atuba
Genre: Comedy/African
Hilarious best describes Old School. It is centred on the life of a woman who completely betrays society's ideal of a woman and wife by creating her own persona. Mama G acted by Patience Ozokwo is on the upper side of forty but tries too hard to live like a twenty something year old.
Her efforts drive her to riotous lengths all in the name of being modern. While women in her village wrap themselves up from head to toe, only the tightest trousers and wackiest hairstyles will do for Mama G.She marvels the village with her assumed style and heavy talk of modernity. Mama G drives everyone especially her husband acted Pete Eneh crazy by her underage behaviour.
He is forced to get another wife since she would rather go to bars and merry make with younger men rather than cook for an 'old man' like him. But this does not make her change, instead makes her even wilder as she takes advantage of the new wife and stays out even later. The fascinating way Mama G, hails herself and drinks local brew makes everyone wonder how she does it.
Old school is a new face to the usual perception that Nigerian movies are all about witchcraft. It brings out the humour in the society through the cast who try to understand the modern woman in an African setting. It will bring to your imagination the women who behave below their age and are always making an effort to not only look younger but behave that way too. A must watch indeed.
